When Bangladesh’s third hitter, Mominul Haque, received a concussion while fielding at short leg on the third day of the Dhaka Test between the West Indies and Bangladesh, things changed unexpectedly. The incident occurred just before lunch on October 30, 2026, in the 78th over of the West Indies’ first innings at Mirpur’s Shere Bangla National Stadium.
Mominul Haque was unable to hold onto the ball as it bounced off Bishop’s hands and struck him, leading him to fall face first to the ground. He was withdrawn from the game after medical staff discovered he had concussion symptoms.
Joshua Bishop pushed at an offspin delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, while Mominul Haque stood near the bat.
Physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam Khan of the Bangladeshi team communicated with the media about the situation. Mominul Haque was replaced for the remainder of the game by Jaker Ali Anik, who had been formally designated as the concussion substitute. Later, when Mominul Haque was unable to bat, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto moved up to take Mominul Haque’s customary No. 3 slot in the Bangladesh batting order.
How did Bangladesh do in their second innings following the injury?
Roston Chase overcame Shanto after being promoted to No. 3, forcing the concussion substitute to take action. Bangladesh was already under pressure when they lost their third wicket in the second innings, and Jaker Ali came out to bat.
By the tea break, Bangladesh had only a 61-run lead over the West Indies after scoring 34 for 4 in their second innings. Jaker had hardly gotten off the mark when the rain interrupted play and pushed the tea break forward, abruptly ending the session.
How will Jaker Ali’s appearance affect his Test career?
Aside from the immediate circumstances of the match, Jaker Ali’s presence was crucial. His previous Test match was against Sri Lanka in June 2025, therefore his return to the longest format follows a 16-month absence.

Instead of choosing a simple decision, the unique path back included utilizing the concussion substitution provision. However, Jaker was prepared and ready to bat in his first Test match since the Sri Lanka series, when Bangladesh’s third wicket fell in the second innings. It remains to be seen whether he can contribute meaningfully with the bat and help Bangladesh maintain their slender lead.
