After West Indies defeated India by 24 runs in the fourth T20I in Hyderabad, Sanju Samson cited Tilak Varma’s wicket as the decisive factor.
Chasing 248 on a relaid surface, India fell to 130 for 5 in the 12th over, but Tilak and Nitish Kumar Reddy kept them in contention. The pair reduced the equation to 48 from 19 balls before Romario Shepherd removed Tilak.
“The turning point of the match was when Tilak got out,” Sanju Samson replied. “We were cruising, scoring 10-12 runs per over extremely well. Reddy and Tilak were batting exceptionally effectively under pressure. After losing five wickets, having two young cricketers take on the pressure and challenge the West Indian bowling line-up was crucial.
Previously, Sanju Samson had established the platform with 56 off 23 balls.
He stated that while he enjoyed his innings, he would have like to be on the winning side.
“Whatever you do feels very different when you are on the losing side, so I am actually a bit gutted at the moment,” he replied. “I really wanted to be on the winning side. I really enjoyed batting out there. When you’re chasing a score like that, there are no second thoughts; you just have to trust your instincts and play your power game, which is what I did. So I appreciated the knock, but I would have like to be on the winning side.
When asked if India missed Jasprit Bumrah with the ball, Sanju Samson responded: “There is no replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. He is a once-in-a-generation type of bowler, and we are extremely fortunate to have him. But we’ve also seen some really outstanding talent emerge; Arshdeep [Singh] has done an excellent job, and Prince Yadav’s bowling in recent games has been extremely impressive. I believe we have some great skill. “The more we play them and support them, the better they will get.”

India enters the series-deciding fifth T20I with another issue. In the final over of the chase, Shamar Joseph hit Arshdeep on the left shoulder with a short ball. Despite apparent pain, he completed one more delivery before quitting. “Arshdeep is putting ice on his shoulder,” Sanju Samson explained. “Hopefully he recovers soon.”
