On October 31, 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India named Auqib Nabi, a bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, to the Indian side for the first three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) of the upcoming series against New Zealand. Prasidh Krishna was unable to play in the opening matches due to a hamstring injury sustained during the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati.
Auqib Nabi had previously been named to the squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs in the series. The BCCI Men’s Selection Committee verified this in a statement.
Shreyas Iyer serves as vice-captain for the first three ODIs, while Shubman Gill takes leadership. Following that, Iyer captains the fourth and fifth games, with Ishan Kishan serving as his deputy. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma play in all five One-Day Internationals.
What shape was Auqib Nabi in prior to his call-up?
On September 30, 2026, Auqib Nabi made his One-Day International debut against the West Indies. In his debut in elite international cricket, he bowled 8.5 overs and conceded 84 runs in Guwahati.
Despite his debut, the right-arm bowler showed promise in a four-day India A match against New Zealand A at Lincoln, collecting six wickets in two innings. He was remained in the team for the following ODIs previous to this most recent promotion because of his performance, which kept him on the selectors’ radar.
India will have extra pace cover throughout the series given that Nabi has joined the group from the first ODI. Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Anshul Kamboj, and Gurnoor Brar, together with Auqib Nabi, make up the rest of the pace attack; Nitish Kumar Reddy appears only in the first ODI of the first three games.
Tilak Varma and Kumar Kushagra join the team for the fourth and fifth ODIs, while Yash Thakur replaces some of the earlier players. Kishan and Kushagra will split wicketkeeping duties with KL Rahul for the first three games of the series. Naman Dhir and Ruturaj Gaikwad add batting depth throughout, while Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel provide spin options.
