Amit Mishra has been named as the Delhi Capitals’ spin bowling coach for the 2027 IPL season. The hiring was confirmed on October 21, 2026, and returns the veteran leg-spinner to the organization where he spent the majority of his playing career.
Amit Mishra joins a coaching staff that has been significantly revamped ahead of the IPL 2027. Sourav Ganguly has been designated head coach, Yuvraj Singh has joined as assistant and batting coach, while Chaminda Vaas is in charge of fast bowling. Mishra’s contribution completes the specialized bowling hierarchy in that scenario.
This is Amit Mishra first coaching assignment. He declared his retirement from all forms of cricket last year, having last played in the IPL in 2024, following 16 seasons in the tournament.
What does Amit Mishra contribute to the Delhi Capitals coaching staff?
Amit Mishra is one of the most prolific wicket-takers in IPL history. Throughout his career in the competition, he appeared in 162 matches and took 174 wickets, with his high of 5 for 17. These figures rank him solidly among the tournament’s top bowlers.
His record also includes a feat that no other IPL bowler has achieved: hat-tricks for three different clubs. He scored one for Delhi Daredevils in 2008, another for Deccan Chargers in 2011, and a third for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.
Ten of his 16 IPL seasons were spent with the Delhi Daredevils and Delhi Capitals, providing him a familiarity with the franchise milieu that few coaches can match. That extended affiliation is likely to help him rapidly transition into a mentorship position with the team’s spin options.
Which Delhi Capitals spinners might benefit from Amit Mishra advice?
The Delhi Capitals have significantly increased their spin resources ahead of IPL 2027. Zeeshan Ansari, a left-arm wrist spinner, joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in a trade, while T Natarajan also moved to Hyderabad as part of the deal.
The Delhi Capitals’ lineup also includes leg spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed. Both are young wrist-spin bowlers in the early stages of their T20 careers, and working with Mishra, whose playing record spans 16 seasons in the same discipline, represents a big chance for their growth.

With Mishra’s appointment confirmed, the Delhi Capitals have established a coaching staff that has extensive playing experience in all three disciplines. As preparations for the IPL 2027 begin, the franchise will draw on their combined experience.
