Beth Mooney, the wicketkeeper-batsman for Australia, has cautioned that the current scheduling strategy could result in the sport falling behind. She has also encouraged Cricket Australia to reschedule women’s home games for the prime summer season. Mooney, who was awarded the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament title at the 2026 T20 World Cup in England, expressed her concerns on October 6, 2026.
Beth Mooney, who was cited by Cricinfo, stated that “that will discourage girls from participating in the game because their parents are not going to allow them to.”
To commence their home summer against Bangladesh, Australia will host three ODIs in Brisbane on October 9, 2026. Three Twenty20 matches against New Zealand will be played in Sydney on school nites on October 18, 20, and 22. Following that, Australia will not play at home again until March 2027, when they will host New Zealand for One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The inaugural match is scheduled for March 6, 2027, in Canberra.
Under the current ICC calendar, there will be no WBBL or international women’s cricket during Australian school holidays for a minimum of the next three years. The ICC’s decision to relocate the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy from June–July to February has also affected the schedule for this summer. The scheduled tour of Sri Lanka through December 2026 will further reduce Australia’s home window.
Beth Mooney subsequently stated that women’s cricket is not required to contend directly with men’s cricket for calendar spots.
“We are not interested in becoming the sport that is behind because we are making mistakes.” We are simply exerting ourselves more intensely because it is a challenging time of year for carers and we are in a poor time frame. They are not transporting their child to watch a Twenty20 match on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. or any other event. It is inadequately promoted, and we are not attracting substantial audiences. “There is no significant draw to the fact that the Australian women’s team plays here annually at this time.
Our objective is to be athletes who are relatable. And despite the fact that it is intended to be a summer sport, it becomes extremely difficult when we are not the focal point. It is unnecessary for the males to engage in competition with us. They conduct the day-night Test at some point. T20s may be conducted prior to that date. Alternatively, we can play T20s at nite during a men’s test,” she continued.
Molineux would be an unforgettable venue for December’s games.
The absence of home contests in December and January was “obviously disappointing,” according to coach Shelley Nitschke. Similar scheduling concerns were previously expressed by Llyse Perry, Australia’s most-capped player, in September 2026. The Indian Women’s Premier League, which will be held from January 14 to February 7, has placed an additional burden on the international schedule due to players’ concerns that it may extend beyond the designated time frame.
A number of Australian players and team management have suggested that home games should be relocated to the December and January window, which coincides with the peak of the Australian summer and school holidays. Sophie Molineux, the team’s captain, stated that the December home games would be “extremely significant.”

Additionally, it would be advantageous to observe fans attend. Molineux stated, “I completely comprehend the increasing complexity and volume of the schedules.”
